Masters in Computer Science

I had two internships. One as a software developer and one as a data scientist. Both required the iterative development of writing code that we learn about. I was in a group with others from highly ranked schools and was more than qualified to work with them. Also Hutch Research (Dr. Brian Hutchinson) has a great research group that can prepare students for outside opportunities. I also was the President / Founder of the WWU Whiteboard Coders club.

Computer Science is an empowering field. CS gives us the power to create just about anything we can imagine. Furthermore, development is fun. It's really rewarding to build something from scratch and watch it work.

Masters in Computer Science

Sasha appreciated studying at Western for the excellent faculty, great opportunities for research, opportunities for school funding, and the beautiful Pacific Northwest location.

I did an internship in the National lab as a Deep Learning intern. I was working on applying Artificial Intelligence in addressing problems in Climate Change.  While at Western, I was a Teaching and Research assistant which funded most of my education. I also mentored female students as a part of Sisters+ mentoring program.

I am particularly proud to graduate from Dr. Brian Hutchinson's Machine Learning research group. It was a very intense research lab. It helped me to learn AI more in depth, get an internship, and become more responsible while working under Dr. Hutchinson supervision. It also helped me to make new amazing friends.

Western Washington University is extremely accepting and friendly towards international students. It was difficult for me to come here leaving all my family and friends but when I reached here, I felt like I have always been a part of Western.  My professors and instructors are all very supporting and helpful.  Our department encourages students to make professional connections and the career center helps to make sure we have all the opportunities we need.

I feel extremely thankful and lucky to be part of this amazing university and the help and support I got during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic

Masters in Computer Science

I am working as a software development engineer in the AI team at Wyze Labs located in Kirkland, WA.  Our AI team is working on the most advanced AI algorithms on computer vision.  My work involves designing and building AI platform for data and model, collaborating with scientists on building data pipelines to ingest, process and analyze data that are important to computer vision models.

This work requires understanding of fundamental concepts such as data structures, algorithms, and deep learning computer vision model that I studied and learnt in the graduate school at Western Washington University.
